Giant collapse gives Cowboys East lead

02:46 AM CST on Monday, November 27, 2006

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – When the Cowboys return to practice Tuesday they will do so in first place in the NFC East. The New York Giants' collapse against Tennessee gave the 7-4 Cowboys sole possession of the division lead with five games to play, making Sunday's game at Giants Stadium even larger. Vince Young threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the fourth quarter to lead the Titans to a 24-21 victory.

Since losing to the Giants on Oct. 23, the Cowboys are 4-1 with Tony Romo at the helm, and the Giants have endured bickering within the team.

The Cowboys are tied with New Orleans with the second-best record in the conference (9-2 Chicago has the best) but host the Saints on Dec. 10 in a game that could help determine a first-round bye in the playoffs. Kickoff for that game could be subject to the NFL's flexible scheduling.
