Internet reports that suggest Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens was misquoted in his recently released book are disappointing and absurd, his publicist said Friday evening.
"It's most unfortunate that a person would want to take his words and make it sound like he isn't telling the truth and writing his own book," Kim Etheredge said. "There's no discrepancy. It's absurd that a person would try to do that."
Owens, who was flying to Miami for a book signing today, was unavailable for comment.
Owens, the Cowboys' most significant off-season acquisition, promoted his book in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Thursday and Friday with a pair of book signings. Owens made his first public comments about the book on Thursday.
In the book, Owens' described his return from a broken leg during the 2004 season in time to play in the Super Bowl as, "If you'll forgive me for saying so ... nothing short of heroic."
When a reporter asked Owens on Thursday, why he chose the word heroic, the receiver said co-author Jason Rosenhaus picked it, "As I wrote that, that was one of the words that Jason used. Not only myself, but a number of commentators have said the same thing. I can't really say that I called it heroic. I know it was a blessing to come back from an injury like that, especially in the short time that I did, for me, I wouldn't even say it was heroic. I think it was a blessing and it was my faith in God that got me back.
"...They're my words. Like I said, we wrote it together."
