The situation: Fourth-and-1 from Dallas 39
The play: New Orleans converts a fourth-down play on a reverse with 2:27 left in the first quarter. Reggie Bush takes a handoff to the right and hands off to Devery Henderson, who sprints to the opposite side for 3 yards and the first down. The play keeps alive a drive that the Saints turn into a touchdown to tie the score. |
2 | Red flag leads to penalty
The situation: Second-and-20 from Dallas 42
The play: The Saints' Jamal Jones catches a pass at the Cowboys 22 with the clock ticking down in the second quarter. As the Saints scramble to spike the ball, Bill Parcells throws his flag to challenge the call. The completion is overturned, but Dallas is penalized 15 yards because a coach cannot challenge with less than two minutes to play in a half. The Saints score on the next play. |
3 | Witten drops touchdown pass
The situation: Second-and-goal at New Orleans 6
The play: Tony Romo rolls left, stops and zips a pass to Jason Witten in the end zone. The pass is a little behind Witten, but the ball hits him in his hands, and he drops it. The Cowboys settle for a field goal with 11:26 left in the third quarter. |
4 | A fake play action and reverse
The situation: First-and-10 at New Orleans 48
The play: On play action, Drew Brees fakes a reverse handoff, sending Cowboys safety Roy Williams spinning. Brees completes a deep pass to Devery Henderson, who is tackled by Williams at the Cowboys 2. Bill Parcells shakes his head in disappointment. New Orleans scores a touchdown several plays later. |
5 | Onside kick works for Saints
The situation: Saints kickoff
The play: Former Cowboys kicker Billy Cundiff catches Dallas by surprise by bouncing a slow-rolling onside kick 10 ½ yards up the middle of the field. It's recovered by the Saints' Jay Bellamy with 5:14 left in the third, and the Saints drive for a clinching score to make it 42-17. |
