Calvin Watkins' five plays that shaped the game
12:32 AM CST on Monday, November 6, 2006
1 | Making an early stand The situation: Fourth-and-goal at Dallas 1 The play: Redskins RB Clinton Portis runs up the middle but is stopped by Bradie James and Jason Ferguson inches short of the goal line with 6:40 to play in the first quarter. The stop ends a 14-play drive that began at the Washington 21 and used up 8:26. The Redskins had six plays inside the Dallas 5 and came up short. |
2 | Try for two goes awry The situation: Two-point conversion attempt The play: In a five-receiver set from the shotgun, Tony Romo looks to the right and passes to Patrick Crayton. The throw is to Crayton's outside shoulder, but cornerback Kenny Wright tips the ball away with 12:55 to go in the first half. |
3 | T.O. has a TD drop The situation: First-and-10 at Dallas 26 The play: Terrell Owens beats Carlos Rogers and Troy Vincent on a deep route. Tony Romo throws a perfect pass down the left hashmark that hits Owens' outstretched hands. Owens, 3 yards out in front, drops the pass at the Redskins 20 with 4:06 left in the third quarter. If he holds on, it's a footrace to the end zone. |
4 | Costly pass interference The situation: First-and-10 at Washington 32 The play: Antwaan Randle El takes a hand- off from Mark Brunell, then throws to Brandon Lloyd. Roy Williams reaches out and grabs Lloyd's arm. The 48-yard pass interference penalty on the first play of the fourth quarter leads to the tying touchdown. |
5 | Big play that wasn't The situation: First-and-10 at Dallas 39 The play: Anthony Fasano's second catch picks up 11 yards but could have been longer. After the sideline grab, the rookie tight end slips at the 50 with 25 seconds left. If he'd kept his footing, he might have gained 10-15 more yards. |
