• Passing game coordinator and receivers coach Todd Haley to Terrell Owens during practice: "I'm putting all of my money on you beating one guy nine times out of 10." Owens' ability to make plays after the catch makes him one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL.
• Julius Jones scored on back-to-back plays during goal-line drills, taking his first run wide to the right and cutting in and his second to the left. On the next play, Owens caught a quick out from Tony Romo for a touchdown.
• With Flozell Adams out for the time being, rookie Pat McQuistan and Marc Colombo split the reps at left tackle. Bill Parcells does not want to move Jason Fabini to the left side, where he spent most of his time with the New York Jets.
• LB Kevin Burnett had the hit of the day, popping fullback Lousaka Polite at the goal line with a big thud, but Polite was able to spin into the end zone.
• On the first play of team drills in training camp Terence Newman broke up a deep Drew Bledsoe pass intended for Terry Glenn. Later, he came up and stoned Marion Barber on a run.
• Linebacker Ryan Fowler and tight end Brett Pierce are close friends, but things change on the field. The two had a vicious collision on a running play that drew oohs and aahs from the crowd.
• Speaking of the crowd, the 5,500 was the largest crowd the Cowboys have had for a training camp practice in three years in Oxnard. The previous high was 5,300 during a 2004 workout. The opening crowds in 2004 and 2005 were 4,500 and 3,900.
• Greg Ellis isn't the only defensive end seeing time as a hybrid outside linebacker. Second-year man Jay Ratliff also took some turns standing up as well.
• Roy Williams was hitting everything. The Pro Bowl safety had two good licks during inside running drills on Jones and Barber.
• The playing surfaces in Oxnard have been an issue since the Cowboys have come here, but the receivers took up several big chunks during their box drill. Scouts Walt Juliff and Chris Hall did their best to help pat down the divots.
