Source: Cowboys reach deal to train in San Antonio

12:32 AM CST on Sunday, April 2, 2006

By JEAN-JACQUES TAYLOR / The Dallas Morning News

The Cowboys have reached a five-year agreement to hold training camp in San Antonio, a club source said Saturday.

The Cowboys will hold training in Oxnard, Calif., 60 miles north of Los Angeles, this summer before returning to San Antonio and the Alamodome in 2007. Dallas held training camp in San Antonio in 2002 and 2003, but a scheduling conflict with the facility forced the Cowboys to find an alternative site in 2004.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could not be reached for comment.

The Cowboys began looking for alternative training camp sites after they found out the land they use for parking and merchandise sales is going to be developed.

The Cowboys have always liked San Antonio because of its high level of fan interest. Studies have shown San Antonio's concentration of Cowboys' fans is as high as the level in Dallas.
