The Cowboys hired Ray Sherman as wide receivers coach and John Garrett as tight ends coach Wednesday.
Coach Wade Phillips is hopeful he can complete his coaching staff by the end of the week.
Dallas is interested in Oakland running backs coach Skip Peete and Wisconsin offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Paul Chryst. If Chryst is hired, he would become the quarterbacks coach.
The Cowboys also need a special teams coach and a secondary coach. Todd Bowles, who coached the secondary the last two seasons, is expected to get promoted to defensive coordinator.
Phillips and owner Jerry Jones met with Bowles over the weekend.
Sherman, who will be making his ninth NFL coaching stop, provides experience to an offensive staff that includes Jason Garrett, who, according to sources, will become the offensive coordinator.
Sherman was offensive coordinator at Minnesota (1999) and Pittsburgh (1998) and was the Tennessee Titans receivers coach for the last two seasons.
John Garrett, Jason's brother, spent the last three seasons at Virginia coaching wide receivers. In 2006, he also took on the role of assistant head coach for offense. Garrett has coached for two NFL teams, Cincinnati (1995-98) and Arizona (1999-2000).
Dallas tried to hire George Stewart as receivers coach, but he signed with the Minnesota Vikings for the same position. Stewart has a close relationship with Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens.
Owens had numerous problems with previous receivers coach Todd Haley, who left to become the offensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals.
