IRVING – When the Cowboys played in Super Bowl XXVIII on Jan. 30, 1994, Ron Turner was at the Georgia Dome to watch his brother, Norv, win a second Vince Lombardi trophy.
Thirteen years later, Norv Turner will be at Dolphin Stadium to watch Ron, Chicago's offensive coordinator, try to win another Super Bowl ring for the family.
The Bears winning the Super Bowl and Norv Turner becoming the Cowboys' next head coach a few days later would constitute a pretty good week for the family.
While they have combined to coach for more than 60 years, they have never worked together, and that probably wouldn't change.
"We're both offensive-oriented guys, and both of us would want to call the plays," Ron said. "It's a bit similar what we do, but the terminology is totally different. Maybe if he got a head job, he'd hire me as quality control coach."
Norv is one of eight candidates to replace Bill Parcells, and his history with the organization helps his candidacy. Ron hopes his older brother gets the chance.
"I think for Norv it would be very important if it's the right situation," Ron said. "He's a great coach. He's one of the great offensive coordinators in this league, in my opinion, and he'd be that, too, as a head coach when he's in the right situation.
Ron said he would decline the chance to interview for the job.
"I'd tell them to hire Norv," he said. "He's the better fit."
