Calvin Watkins' five plays that shaped the game

03:10 AM CST on Sunday, January 7, 2007

1
Witten makes fourth-down catch
The situation: Fourth-and-2 at Seattle 35
The play: Tony Romo looks to the right side and finds tight end Jason Witten. Witten stiff-arms one defender and drags another to the Seattle 3. Dallas calls timeout with 24 seconds left in the first half. The pass play leads to a touchdown and a 10-6 Cowboys edge.

2
Alexander goes off the edge
The situation: Fourth-and-1 at Dallas 18
The play: With one second on the play clock and about six minutes left in the third quarter, Shaun Alexander goes off left tackle and gains 3 yards for a first down. Bobby Carpenter makes an ankle tackle to prevent a bigger gain. It was Seattle's second fourth-down conversion on the drive, and the Seahawks later scored to take a 13-10 lead.

3
Tip and an INT
The situation: First-and-10 at Seattle 31
The play: Matt Hasselbeck does a pump-and-go and floats a pass toward the Seattle sideline on the second play of the fourth quarter. Terence Newman tips it, and Roy Williams catches it and gets two feet inbounds. The play stands after a review, and Dallas uses the possession to kick a field goal and take a 20-13 lead.

4
Ware blows up the play
The situation: First-and-goal at Dallas 1
The play: Shaun Alexander runs to the left side midway through the fourth quarter. DeMarcus Ware sheds two blockers, and Alexander has no chance. He is knocked down for a 7-yard loss, and Seattle eventually turns the ball over on downs.

5
From a touchdown to a safety
The situation: First-and-10 at Dallas 2
The play: After Dallas stops Seattle on fourth down, Tony Romo throws a quick pass to Terry Glenn in the flat. Glenn is stripped by Kelly Jennings. The ball is loose, knocked into the air by Lofa Tatupu, and Michael Boulware recovers near the back of the end zone for an apparent touchdown. But Dallas challenges, and the play is overturned and ruled a safety, leaving the score 20-15.
