Barack Obama's struggle is not with how to define himself; rather, it's how to define himself in a way that is palatable to the voters. The problem is that Mr. Obama's economics and politics are a whole lot closer to Karl Marx than to any form of democratic capitalism, and he knows this won't sell well with the middle class voters he so desperately needs. So, over the past few weeks, Mr. Obama has been lunging to the right as hard as he can without alienating his radical liberal base.
