A year-by-year look at the career of Michael Irvin:

1988

April 24: Selected with the 11th pick overall in the first round.

Sept. 4: Catches three passes for 73 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown, in his first game, a 24-21 loss to Pittsburgh.

Dec. 11: Records first 100-yard game and first multiple touchdown game – six catches for 149 yards and three touchdowns – in a 24-17 win over Washington.

1989

May 29: Guest conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's Memorial Day concert.

Oct 15: Sustains a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which ended his season in the sixth game.

1990

Oct 7: Plays in first game since knee surgery, a 14-10 win over Tampa Bay.

Oct. 21: Catches his first two passes of the season, including a game-winning 28-yard touchdown pass against Tampa Bay with 23 seconds left.

1991

Dec. 8: Ties a franchise record with his third consecutive 100-yard game (five catches for 101 yards against New Orleans).

Dec 22: Catches a career-high 10 passes for 169 yards in a 26-7 loss to Atlanta to finish the season with franchise records for receptions (93) and yards (1,523).

1992

Feb. 2: Earns Pro Bowl MVP honors with eight-catch, 125-yard performance.

Sept. 20: Records eight catches for a career-high 210 yards and three touchdowns against Phoenix.

Oct. 11: Ties his franchise record of three consecutive 100-yard games with six catches for 113 yards against Seattle.

1993

Jan. 31: Scores two touchdowns in the final minutes of the first half of Super Bowl XXVII, a 52-17 win over Buffalo.

Oct. 17: Records the second-highest reception total in franchise history with 12 catches in a 26-17 win over San Francisco.

1994

Jan. 16: Catches nine passes for 126 yards and a touchdown in a 27-17 victory over Green Bay in the Divisional Playoffs.

Jan 30: Catches five passes for 66 yards in the Cowboys' 30-13 win over Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVIII.

Nov. 10: Fined $12,500 by NFL for participating in a halftime fight with members of the New York Giants.

Dec. 4: Surpasses 1,000 yards receiving for a club-record fourth consecutive season with four catches for 117 yards in a 31-19 win over Philadelphia.

1995

Jan. 15: Sets franchise playoff records for receptions (12) and yards (192) in a 38-28 loss to San Francisco in the NFC Championship game.

Feb. 9: Signs five-year, $15 million contract that includes a $5 million signing bonus, making him the NFL's highest paid receiver.

Sept. 17: Sets the franchise record with his 27th 100-yard game after catching eight passes for 1076 yards against Minnesota.

Oct. 19: Surpasses Drew Pearson's club record of 489 receptions.

Oct. 29: Catches a pass in the 73rd straight game to establish a new team record.

Dec 3: Sets NFL record for 100-yard games in a season (11) with 101 yards on 10 catches against Washington.

Nov. 12: Breaks Tony Hill's franchise record for career receiving yards (7,988) in a game against San Francisco.

Nov. 6: Catches eight passes for 115 yards to tie the NFL record of seven consecutive 100-yard games.

Dec. 25: Catches five passes for 82 yards to establish single-season franchise records for receptions (111) and yards (1,603).

1996

Jan. 28: Catches five passes for 76 yards in the Cowboys' 27-17 victory over Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XXX.

March 4: Found in a Irving motel room with former teammate Alfredo Roberts and two self-employed models, drugs and drug paraphemalia.

April 1: Indicted on felony cocaine and misdemeanor marijuana charges.

May 2: Is sued by a car sales manager for allegedly assaulting him at the Cowboys Sports Cafe.

July 24: Suspended for five games without pay for the NFL for conduct detrimental to the league.

Aug. 7: Makes first appearance at training camp after missing the first 18 days.

Oct. 3: Catches five passes for 51 yards in his first game back after serving a five-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the NFL.

Oct. 10: Reaches a financial settlement with North Texas Toyota Dealers Association, which had sued him for $1.2 million over an ad campaign that went awry because of his drug possession trial.

Oct. 27: Catches 12 passes for 186 yards in a 29-10 win over Miami and former coach Jimmy Johnson.

1997

Jan. 3: Nina Shahravan, a 23-year-ld Mesquite woman, accuses Irvin of holding a gun to her head while teammate Erik Williams and another man raped her.

Jan. 5: Sprains his shoulder on the second play of an NFC Divisional playoff game against Carolina, a 26-17 loss, and does not return.

Jan. 10: Cleared by Dallas police along with Williams of all allegations by Shahravan.

May 15: Requests a trade, according to three sources in The News.,

June 4: Sues the Dallas Police Department and KXAS-TV (Channel 5), the first station that reported the rape allegations, and considers retiring.

June 13: Denies a report that he assaulted a man at a San Francisco nightclub.

June 16: Helps unload donated food at a church that serves needy children.

June 25: Pays a prison visit to Johnny Hernandez , the former Dallas police officer who pleaded guilty to a charge that he tried to have Irvin killed.

July 14: San Francisco prosecutors decline to press charges against Irvin.

July 15: Announces he will not retire.

July 23: Reaches a settlement in a lawsuit against KXAS-TV that pays Irvin and Erik Williams $1 million each.

Oct. 13: Surpasses 10,000 yards receiving in his career with five catches for 81 yards against Washington.

1998

July 29: Teammate Everett McIver suffers a deep cut to his neck in a dormitory incident at training camp. Published reports say Irvin caused the injury with a pair of scissors during a dispute.

Aug 17: State District Judge Manny Alvarez says authorities found no wrongdoing on Irvin's part and he did not violate terms of his probation in the McIver incident.

Nov 2: Scores his only touchdown of the season on a 10-yard pass.

Nov. 15: Sees his steak of 117 consecutive games with a catch end in a 35-28 win over Arizona.

1999

May 3: Wants to be traded, according to his agent, Steve Endicott.

June 15: Meets with owner Jerry Jones for nearly two hours to discuss his status and his role, forcing him to miss a morning mini-camp practice.

Oct. 10: Sustains temporary paralysis and swelling of his spinal cord after his head is jammed into the turf after catching a pass.

Oct. 26: Diagnosed with cervical stenosis, a congenital condition that means he has a narrow spinal column.

Dec. 4: Placed in injured reserve by the Cowboys, ending his season.

2000

July 11: Announces his retirement from professional football.

Today in History
1999: A final autopsy reveals that former Cowboys offensive lineman Mark Tuinei died of a lethal combination of heroin and a form of the drug ecstasy. The death was ruled an accident.
